Nurses
Recognition of your nursing qualification, German at B2 and the way into a German hospital.
Working in Germany
Maternity hospitals in Germany are looking for midwives. We guide you through the recognition of your qualification and bring you into a team that suits you.
In Germany, midwives work in the delivery room, on the postnatal ward and – after some experience – also self-employed in antenatal and postnatal care.
Recognition is handled by the authority of the federal state where you will work; details can differ between states. The responsible authority makes the binding decision.
We talk about your training and experience and review your documents.
We prepare the recognition application with you and arrange German courses up to B2.
We find a suitable maternity hospital and support you with the employment contract and visa application.
Adaptation measure, onboarding in the delivery room, housing and authorities – we stay by your side.
Midwife (Hebamme) is a protected profession in Germany: you may use the title once your qualification is recognised by the state. Since 2020, midwives in Germany are trained through a university degree; foreign qualifications are checked for equivalence.
If there are substantial differences, you make up for them through an adaptation course or a knowledge test with an oral and a practical part. Qualifications from the EU partly follow other procedures.
With a recognised qualification and an employment contract, midwives from outside the EU receive a residence permit as skilled workers. If recognition is not yet complete, you can come to Germany for adaptation measures or through a recognition partnership with your employer.
In hospitals, midwives work in shifts in the delivery room and on the postnatal ward, closely with doctors and nurses. Pay usually follows a collective agreement; your salary depends on experience, employer and region.
There is no advertised position in this field right now. Apply anyway – we will get in touch as soon as a suitable position opens up.
Are you working in the medical field and would like to shape your professional future in Germany? SBP Management guides international professionals individually and transparently through the necessary steps.
Recognition usually requires German at B2 level. Safe communication is especially important in the delivery room – we arrange courses that also cover professional language.
In an adaptation course you work and learn for a set period under supervision and finish with an interview. The knowledge test checks your knowledge in an oral and a practical part. Depending on the decision, you can often choose.
No. Our support is free of charge for applicants; the employer covers the costs.
